With the world Otterhound population being estimated in the mere 900s, we have made a personal pledge to dedicate ourselves to using all available avenues to help ensure the survival, health and well being of these incredible hounds through continuing education, financial commitments and a responsible long-term breeding program.

DeKenchar strongly supports the establishment of an Otterhound Foundation or Trust and an Open Health Registry. We have and will continue to participate in health studies and testing dedicated to finding either reasons and/or cures for the medical issues associated with our hounds.

Anticipating our first Otterhound litter early January 2010, our focus was to breed for health, temperament and conformation.
